Cinematic Cardiff: Doctor Who, Sherlock, Torchwood & more

"Fantastic tour! A must for Doctor Who and BBC Drama fans, but also a lovely way to get to know Cardiff with some interesting historical and cultural tidbits - the perfect way to liven up these sometimes dry tours by combining it with your hobby. Great value for what you get. Sarah is a lovely guide with a clear love of Cardiff, great recommendations for your tourist experience, and second-to-none Who knowledge. My only note is I think at one point Spyfall was referred to as Jodie’s first episode, but meh, it’s not like this fanbase to nitpick 😉 Thank you, Sarah, really enjoyed! Currently enjoying a pint in one of Sherlock’s pub-crawl pubs, though sadly not out of a measuring beaker 😂"   May 2025 - David

The history facts were really interesting and a good addition. It was very easy to navigate and I’m glad it was self-guided, as you could pause to check other things out and take everything at your own pace. Thank you Sarah for making this, your love of Cardiff really shines through!!"

Landmarks for the filming of Doctor Who, Sherlock, Torchwood, Sarah Jane Adventures in Cardiff

Doctor Who Walking Tour of Cardiff City Centre  Duration 1.25 hours

Cardiff is packed full of television locations, if you know where to find them. On this walking tour of central Cardiff, you’ll see multiple locations from the BBC Sci-Fi drama Doctor Who, from the ninth to the fifteenth doctor.

You’ll have the chance to enter many of these iconic locations and, with my help, be able to picture the scenes that took place here.  Along the way, I’ll also point out locations from Torchwood, The Sarah-Jane Adventures, the BBC’s Sherlock, and a few more surprising television productions.

Our tour starts at the iconic Cardiff Castle, where you’ll find out just how versatile it’s been as a TV location. As you walk around the new Canal Quarter, you’ll hear about directors and CGI enhancements, along with a few film shoot stories – like why it was tricky filming a particular scene with Kylie Minogue. I’ll also share some of Cardiff’s war-time tales, its medieval history, and tell you how it grew from a small town to a massive coal exporting city.

Our tour ends at Cambrian Tap, a popular pub that you may recognise from Sherlock, where you’ll have the option to sample local food and drink, armed with the confidence to know what to ask for.

Cardiff Bay’s Whoniverse: A Guide to its Filming Locations

Cinematic Cardiff Tour: Dr Who and other filming locations

Walking tour of Cardiff Bay area.  Duration: 1.5 hours

Cardiff has a reputation as the home of Bad Wolf Studios and the city with ties to the Torchwood spin-off TV show. It’s also known as the beating heart of the Doctor Who cinematic universe: The Whoniverse.

On this Cardiff Bay walking tour, you’ll experience the city’s vibrant culture, discover its rich history, and explore its status as the Doctor’s gateway into time and space. Cardiff holds a special place for Doctor Who fans because it’s not just the show’s production base, but also a central location in many of its iconic scenes.

The tour starts outside the iconic Wales Millennium Centre at the Torchwood Tower, where I’ll tell you how CGI was used to turn a Cardiff Bay location into a Parisian Art Gallery. You’ll explore streets made famous by Doctor Who, Torchwood, and other productions. I’ll point out specific filming locations and explain how the film and television industry has become Wales’ fastest-growing economic sector.

Stupenda Penarth: da Porto Industriale a Quartiere dei Milionari

Colourful Edwardian style buidings along Victorian Esplanade

1,5 ore tour a pied
